Is Your Child Receiving the Right Level of Care? A Guide to PPEC Services
Children with complex medical needs often need specialized childcare. Prescribed pediatric extended care (PPEC) offers parents extra support and peace of mind. Learn about the benefits and how to tell if it’s right for your family.

If your child has complex medical needs, it’s normal to worry about whether they’re getting the best possible care, medically and educationally.

Traditional school settings aren’t always equipped to provide clinical support, and they often don’t have the necessary resources to dedicate adequate time to each child.

Prescribed pediatric extended care (PPEC) provides a safer and more supportive alternative. This specialized medical day care program offers skilled nursing support throughout the day for children and teens, as well as socialization and education.

Our team of doctors, nurses, and therapists at Little Angels PPEC, with locations in Longwood, Orlando, and Apopka, Florida, offers a complete PPEC program. Read on to learn more about the services we offer and how they can help your child thrive.

What is PPEC?

PPEC is a medical day care program for children with disabilities and complex health needs.

It provides a safe, supervised environment where students can interact with their peers, learn in a way that supports their abilities, and receive medical treatment without having to stay at a hospital or other clinical facility.

At Little Angels PPEC, we serve children and teenagers with chronic medical conditions, such as cystic fibrosis and cerebral palsy, and developmental delays, such as autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and Down syndrome.

Our staff consists of qualified doctors, nurses, and therapists, and we offer medical monitoring and support throughout the day.

Services that PPEC provides

We offer various supportive services, including:

Medical therapy

Special needs children often need speech, physical, or occupational therapy, or a combination. Medical therapy provides all of these services onsite, whether your child needs help with activities of daily living, such as dressing and eating, or struggles to communicate effectively.

All of our therapists are trained and certified, ensuring a positive, supportive experience.

Medical daycare

Medical daycare blends aspects of traditional childhood education with medical oversight. It lets children with complex medical needs socialize, play, and learn under the supervision of licensed nurses.

This provides a supportive educational environment for your child and also allows you to relax while you’re at work or running errands.

Daily medical support

Many of our students need medical care throughout the day, including:

  • Feeding support
  • Medication management
  • Respiratory care
  • Vital sign monitoring

PPEC offers this support, so your child can learn, socialize, and play safely. This setup also provides a reprieve for parents who spend countless hours each week as caretakers.

Medical transportation

Transporting your child to their medical appointments or school can be challenging, especially if they use a wheelchair or need special medical support, such as an oxygen tank. Our medical transportation program provides door-to-daycare service and transportation to appointments.

Whether you simply need us to pick your child up and bring them home, or you’d like us to take them to a doctor’s appointment, we can help.  Our vehicles are equipped for safety and staffed by trained personnel.

Providing peace of mind for parents

If your child has complex medical or developmental needs, attends multiple doctors' appointments each month, or needs regular medical monitoring, PPEC may be the solution you’ve been looking for.
